PowerADE Personal Best Athlete Joe Torres Joe Torres is an eighth-grader at Horace Mann Middle School whose personal dedication to excellence shines through each of his endeavors.
Joe is a member of the Mann football team that won the city championship the last two seasons. He also participates in track, where he places in the shot put and discus. Mann head coach Scott Warden said, "He is an invaluable leader in the classroom, the playing field and the community. He exemplifies what we want the school and the athletic program to be about." Joe knows being a champion involves much more than athletic ability. He is a part of the Mann leadership team. The group goes to local elementary schools where they read to the kids, mentor them and lend a helping hand to the programs at those schools. This young man serves as team captain for the football team and has maintained an A-B average throughout his school career. He won a scholarship to go to Europe for the summer to learn overseas. "Joe is a joy to coach and to have on the team," Warden said. "I can't wait to see what he does in his bright future." We join the coach and Joe's teammates in congratulating him as the PowerADE Personal Best Athlete this week.
