Breena Maul

Breena Maul, a sophomore at Tascosa High School, doesn't mind stepping out of the box and trying new things.

Breena Maul

She was a volleyball player before she arrived at Tascosa. But when Head Wrestling Coach Johnny Cobb approached her about joining the school's nationally recognized program, she didn't hesitate. Her great attitude and desire to do her best brought success to the team and earned her recognition as well.

Breena's desire to do her best helped make her a state qualifier her freshman year. She's posted a 19-4 record on the mat this year, and Coach Donna Welch said Breena's efforts help put points on the board when the team competes.

This remarkable young lady carries the same characteristics into the classroom. Teachers were more than enthusiastic in support of Breena's nomination by Coach Welch. Several wrote e-mails, commending her as an excellent student and citing the tremendous effort she puts into everything she does.

"She is always positive and excited to learn," wrote one teacher. "She's a leader and an example to all the students in my classroom."

There's little doubt that Breena will continue to pursue a course of excellence and personal achievement. The Amarillo Independent is happy to join her coaches and teachers to recognize her as the PowerADE Personal Best Athlete of the Week.
