Appointment Alfred J. Smith joins Happy bank board Alfred J. Smith has been elected to the board of directors of Happy State Bank and its holding company, Happy Bankcshares Inc., according to an announcement by bank President and CEO J. Pat Hickman.
Smith spent half a century in the oil, gas and chemical industry. Most recently, he owned the Operating Co., an oil and gas production company in the Texas Panhandle. He traveled globally during his 32-year tenure with Cabot Corp. and spent two years with the Maple Gas Corp., which also operated in the Texas Panhandle. Smith is a graduate of Texas Tech University where he earned a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering. He did graduate work at University of Virginia, University of Houston, Southern Methodist University and Texas Tech. He is a registered professional engineer in the state of Texas and holds memberships in the Society of Petroleum Engineers and the Society of Civil Engineers. Smith currently serves as a trustee for Lubbock Christian University. He is a member of the boards of directors of the Amarillo Symphony and Music from Angel Fire. Smith is an elder at Central Church of Christ. He and his wife, Patricia, have three children and 10 grandchildren.
