Clarification

From the Feb. 28 issue:

Mac Thornberry, Roger Waun, and Kel Seliger were never issued questions to answer for the local section of the Amarillo League of Women's Voters Voter Guide because they are unopposed within their party's primary.

They are excluded by the local LWV rules from offering written responses, according to Alan Abraham, 2008 Primary Voters Guide chairperson.

Questions were issued only to the 14 candidates with opponents for the same offices within their party for this Primary edition of the local section of the guide.

All 14 candidates answered questions, which were published.

Correction

The editor's note in the Feb. 28 Amarillo Independent stated that County Commissioner Joe Kirkwood had been investigated for allegations that county employees had worked on his property.

Kirkwood was not investigated for that matter, nor was he the target of any other investigation.

The Amarillo Independent regrets the error.
