Lyz Moak

Bushland High School sophomore Lyz Moak is an all-around athlete.

Lyz Moak: Bushaldn High School

At 5 feet 9 inches, she was a starter at post for the Junior Varsity Basketball team. Recently she received a silver medal in power-lifting and she has earned a spot on Bushland's Varsity softball team.

Donna Corder, one of her teachers said, "Lyz is a very respectful person on and off the court. She is fun to be around and she is a hard worker in and out of the classroom."

In the classroom, Lyz maintains a place on the A-B Honor Roll while taking Pre-AP classes.

Lyz is also involved in the community. She is a junior lifeguard for the city of Amarillo, a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and plans to visit Mexico on a mission trip with Polk Street United Methodist Church to help build houses.

In her spare time, she plays electric guitar, reads and sings with the Bushland High School Choir.

"This young lady puts 100 percent effort into her activities and class work," Corder said. "She is humble about her successes and recognizes the people around her."

Lyz demonstrates the dedication, principles and character that the Amarillo Independent is proud to recognize in the PowerADE athlete of the week.
