Meet the Staff Kathie Greer By Leslee Rasco When Kathie Greer crossed the fence to join The Amarillo Independent's team of talented reporters, she brought wisdom and experience.
Greer is a self-proclaimed Amarillo native and grandmother. Greer's community knowledge and understanding come from her experience in many fields across Amarillo. Greer worked in public relations at St. Anthony's Hospital before returning to school. She earned her bachelor's degree at West Texas A&M University in English and speech, with minors in business and education. Greer received her degree in two and a half years while raising two children, working a part-time job and trying to stay afloat. Greer's hard work paid off. She worked at the Globe-News for six years writing editorials and opinion columns for six years. She did public relations and marketing for the musical drama TEXAS and sales and marketing for the Big Texan Steak Ranch. Greer loves to travel. She took a sabbatical and drove an 18-wheeler all across America for two years. At the same time, she took notes for her novel. Greer joined the Indy in 2007 to help with marketing and to revive her column, "Across the Fence." "When I wrote my column years ago I developed relationships with so many people because they let me know they were reading it. And I treasured those people. "This is developing the same way. I like the fact that Amarillo has an alternate voice. "We have a local newspaper that is willing to pick up the rocks and see if there is something crawling around that needs to be cleaned up," Greer said. In her free time, she enjoys reading, gardening, photography, camping and playing with grandkids. E-mail
