High Noon

Head to square for entertainment

The sounds of downtown will mingle with music again this summer as Center City of Amarillo begins its 14th year of "High Noon on the Square," a free weekly entertainment series on the historic Potter County Courthouse lawn.

Grab Your Partner: It's time for High Noon on the Square.

This year's free concert series kicks off at noon Wednesday, June 4, with performers from the musical drama "Texas."

A different group will perform each Wednesday on the steps of the courthouse at Fifth Avenue and Taylor Street.

At "High Noon," the music is free and lunch is available for $5 from a variety of restaurants. All proceeds will benefit Center City of Amarillo. Tickets for the meal may be purchased at the event.

"The performers and the menu change every week," said Beth Duke, Center City executive director. "From country to classical, we have something for everyone. The musicians and performers volunteer their time for the free entertainment. This is one more way we can bring people to Center City. We believe Center City is everybody's neighborhood."

The schedule for High Noon on the Square for 2008 is:

Wednesday, June 4 — Music from the musical drama "Texas." Lunch sponsor: The Big Texan.

Wednesday, June 11 — Music by The Amarillo Jazz Society. Lunch sponsor: Schlotzsky's and the Ashmore Inn.

Wednesday, June 18 — Entertainment by "Unknown Entry." Lunch sponsor: Desperado's BBQ.

Wednesday, June 25 — Music by Just 2 Guys. Lunch sponsor: Chick-fil-A.

Wednesday, July 2 — Music by Dean Yates. Lunch sponsor: La Fiesta.

Wednesday, July 9 — Music by The Otwell Twins. Lunch sponsor: Legal Aid of Northwest Texas.

Wednesday, July 16 — Music by Andy Chase. Lunch sponsor: Desperado's BBQ.

Wednesday, July 23 — Music by Amarillo Opera. Lunch sponsor: Chick-fil-A.

Wednesday, July 30 — Entertainment by Lone Star Ballet. Lunch sponsor: The Big Texan.
