Program Title: 'Paintings of Killarney'

Len and Ginny Slesick, with the Slesick Gallery, will present selected art works at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4, at the Amarillo Central Library, Room A.

"We have made two different trips to Ireland, escorting small groups,"
Len says. “I have 14 paintings of the Killarney area and will talk about them. I will also display my scrapbooks."

The presentation leads in to the Amarillo International Club's annual International Week, Sept. 30 through Oct. 6, which focuses on Ireland this year.

Len Slesick has conducted art workshops in Texas and many surrounding states. His awards include “Best of Show" in the Lone Star Pastel Society, Best of the Southwest, and Tri-State Art Association.

"The clean air of West Texas and New Mexico brings out the strength and truth in colors," Len Slesick writes. “I teach the basics … There are certain rules to the structure and control of a good painting."

Ginny Slesick formed an intense interest in art in Chicago. She has studied with fine artists for insight and encouragement. She always carries a sketchbook journal to record her observations.

"I am pleased to share my memories of inspiring locales rendered in various media," Ginny Slesick writes. “Art to me is not a decoration but a necessity."
The Slesicks have paintings in collections and museums across the country as well as in their studio and gallery in Amarillo.

The event is sponsored by the Amarillo International Club but is free and open to the public. For information, contact David K. Kelley at
355-1934 or davidkkelley@nts-online.net.

Mike Ellicott, vice chancellor, Facilities Planning and Construction, Texas Tech University, speaks about the new building at the Amarillo campus of the Health Sciences Center during the groundbreaking ceremony Aug. 23. The $18 million, 48,000 square feet building is designed to support additional research including open and closed laboratories and shared lab support facilities and is scheduled for completion in 14 months.
